Punishment

"That's because Vista appears to make cruel and unusual demands on a system and peripherals attached to a system."

A Cruel and Unusual Punishment? Surely that's unconstitutional in the US-of-A.

What I want?

You know what I'm looking forward to?
The time when hardware becomes so uber fast, that XP just works faster and faster than before.

I don't want new operating systems which require new hardware just to run as fast as XP did before on the previous generation of hardware.

Double income for Microsoft

It occurs to me that MS can get two licence fees for every new PC.
Ship an OEM Vista licence with the PC.
Sell a XP licence to replace the (more) broken OS

Could this be why MS sales have gone up since Vista, but PC volumes haven't?
